چکیده

Light flashes of calibrated wavelength and intensity were presented to the turtle eye and electrical responses were simultaneously recorded from the cornea and the optic tectum. Spectral sensitivity curves derived from criterion-response levels showed a characteristic red-sensitive process at both sites. At high criterion levels the two curves were quite similar. At low criterion-response levels the tectum showed an enhanced blue-green process not evident in the peripheral record. The sensitivity to blue-green may correspond to previously observed behavior.

Retinal recipient nuclei in the painted turtle, Chrysemys picta: an autoradiographic and HRP study.

Retinofugal pathways in the painted turtle were examined with autoradiographic and HRP methods. The majority of the retinal fibers decussate at the optic chiasm and course caudally to terminate in 12 regions of the diencephalon and mesencephalon. The pars dorsalis of the lateral geniculate nucleus is the densest target in the thalamus. Two nuclei dorsal to pars dorsalis--the dorsal optic and do...

Pathways of Xenopus optic fibres regenerating from normal and compound eyes under various conditions.

We have used Horseradish peroxidase to investigate the pathways taken by Xenopus optic fibres regenerating from normal and electrophysiologically-confirmed compound eyes to the optic tectum. Optic fibres, when sectioned near the chiasma, regenerate up both sides of the diencephalon to both tecta. We have therefore been able, by using animals in which one eye had or had not been removed at early...

Behavioral spectral sensitivity of the zebrafish (Danio rerio)

While the zebrafish (Danio rerio) continues to become an important animal model for the investigation of the genetic and physiological bases of visual processing of the vertebrate retina, its visual behavior, particularly regarding color processing, has received little attention. The purpose of this study was to obtain behavioral spectral sensitivity functions from adult zebrafish using an appe...

Interactions between compound and normal eye projections in dually innervated tectum: a study of optic nerve regeneration in Xenopus.

Right compound eyes were formed in Xenopus embryos at tailbud stages by the fusion of two nasal (NN), two temporal (TT) or two ventral (VV) halves. The left eye was kept intact. Two to four weeks after metamorphosis the optic nerve from the intact eye was severed to induced bilateral optic nerve regeneration. The contralateral retinotectal projections from the compound eye and the induced ipsil...

Multiple manifestations of microstimulation in the optic tectum: eye movements, pupil dilations, and sensory priming.

It is well established that the optic tectum (or its mammalian homologue, the superior colliculus) is involved in directing gaze toward salient stimuli. However, salient stimuli typically induce orienting responses beyond gaze shifts. The role of the optic tectum in generating responses such as pupil dilation, galvanic responses, or covert shifts is not clear. In the present work, we studied th...
